Lift Service

OCC Transport, Inc. operates two wheelchair lift-equipped vehicles. These specialized "Lift Buses" supplement the regular bus fleet to create a complete transportation system for the students of Binghamton University. The lifts are a crucial part of the Binghamton campus: they allow people with disabilities to access locations that were not built with special needs in mind. All OCCT drivers are trained in the operation of the lift buses and are acquainted with the needs of their passengers.

The lift buses run fall and spring semesters, Monday through Friday from 7:00am to 11:00pm, when classes are in session. Consult the University academic calendar for the dates of available service. Other special arrangements, such as weekend charters, may be made by contacting the Lift Coordinator.

Passenger Rights and Responsibilities

The service is designed to assist members of the University community whose temporary or permanent disabilities prevent them from driving or riding the regular bus service to and from campus. Eligibility decisions are made by the Director of Services for Students with Disabilities. Individuals needing lift service should contact the Director of SSD at (607) 777-2686. All authorizations are then forwarded to the Lift Coordinator at OCC Transport.

Lift passengers are entitled to punctual, safe and courteous service. The lift buses provide maximum mobility to serve the academic needs of passengers. The desire for trips to cultural and entertainment events within the Triple Cities area is also recognized and will be provided whenever possible. In turn, passengers are expected to be considerate in their use of the lift by being on time for all pickups and by informing the Lift Coordinator of any problems or cancellations as early as possible.
